Restaurant Reviews
The Cheesecake Factory, located in the Old Town area of Pasadena is known, obviously for its cheesecake, but also for its enormously portioned meals. You could liken it to an upscale Claim Jumper. The décor is elegant with an art deco feel. If it weren’t so noisy, I could easily see this as a romantic location to eat or even to have a cocktail at their beautifully appointed bar.
There is always a long wait to be seated (typically 10-15 with a reservation and 30-60 minutes without). There are primarily booths but they also have a lot seating that is a long booth bench on one side of the table and chairs on the opposite side with 10-20 tables in between. The downside is that you are right next to other people with scarcely enough room in between. Because the dining room is so large and typically very full, it’s very noisy. I find myself having to speak loudly to be heard across the table.
The service is typically friendly, helpful and prompt. The servers are well versed with the menu and it is evident that they have tried most everything on it. When pressed to make a decision, I generally rely on the server to steer me in the right direction and to date have not been disappointed with my decision.
The menu selection is extensive and incredibly varied, almost too much so. They serve, classic American favorites like meatloaf but also offer Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Cajun and Jamaican cuisine, to name only a few. Every time I eat there, it takes me 20 minutes to skim though through the menu. The upside is that if you feel like having tempura appetizers and an old fashioned pot pie for dinner, you are in the right place and won’t be disappointed with either choice. The food is really outstanding. It’s rare that a restaurant can make such a wide variety of culinary styles that are equally good. Entrés average around $14.00 and really are enormous. I have never left there without a doggie bag.
Their cheesecakes are outstanding and there are so many different varieties. I counted 36 on their menu. My favorites have to be the Dutch Apple cheesecake and the fresh strawberry cheesecake but my fiancé swears by the Godiva Chocolate cheesecake. I have tried only about 5 different varieties and each one I’ve tried has been decadent.
If you don’t mind a bit of a wait and lot of noise, the menu, décor and service definitely won’t disappoint. I look forward to my next visit

I first went to the Cheesecake Factory in Marina Del Rey in 1986. Great place to eat and now they have one in Pasadena!!! I go there for the great service and the tasty food at decent prices. I personally prefer either the Spicy Cashew Shrimp or the Meatloaf, both very good. There is always a variety basket of bread on your table and the glasses are always filled with water and whatever else you are drinking. The variety of food is extensive and I have yet to eat a meal there that I did not like. Then there is the cheesecake! There seems to be at least 30 different types of cake and wow, what flavor! I highly recommend The Cheesecake Factory for its service, food and decent prices.
