I have dined at Houston's Pasadena twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. I did not care for the place either time. The service was poor, the place was noisy and the food was sub standard for what Houston's is supposed to be. The pork chop I had for lunch was overcooked and tough and the rare steak I ordered for dinner was cooked medium well. When I sent it back the server returned with a steak that was cold in the middle. Either they do not know how to cook a steak rare or the chef did not like having it returned. My wife ordered her steak medium rare and it was served to her well done (no pink at all). We were with guests both times so I did not complain. The server seemed to be trying hard but said there were not enough servers that night so the service was slow. I do not mind liesurely service when I am enjoying the company of guests, but I would like to have my coffee refilled more than once during a meal. I know that servers work hard for their income so I always leave a minimum of a 20% tip even when the service is poor. After I paid the check the server became very considerate and attentive and then had plenty of time for us. We will not be going back.
This is a decent restaurant for American cuisine. I get the double cut pork chops here. Nothing fancy here. It's more of a middle of the road restaurant chain. The few times that I have dined there the service was sub-standard. In fact the last time I dined there, the place was near empty because it had just opened for lunch and I still had trouble finding our server. The food isn't all that either. I expected more from this restaurant but I guess that with the other finer restaurants in town, Houston's just isn't up for the game. Click here to visit the website for Houston's
