Restaurant Reviews
The food is very good, the service is excellent, the margaritas are not watered down and the people, employees and customers alike, are all friendly. Whether you perfer burritos, enchiladas, tacos, tamales, flautas or whatever you will not be dissapointed here.

On a recent Sunday, my son's fiance invited my wife and I along with thirty or so other family members and friends to a birthday party for my son at this restaurant. Prior to this I had never heard of Mijares. Both my wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service here. Everyone ate from the buffet brunch (both Mexican and American food) and everything was good. Of Mexican food, there were tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, burritos along with menudo, rice, beans, barbacoa, shredded beef and more. Of American food, there were ribs and omelets along with chicken and more. There was a large dessert table and different types of bread along with, of course, corn and flower tortillas. Everthing was well prepared and tasted very good. Nothing was too spicy nor was anything bland. Several people at the party said that they eat here frequently and the others, who had not eaten here before, all said that they would be coming back. Not one person complained about the place, the food or the service. I now recomend this restaurant to everyone, not only for Sunday brunch but for anytime.

Try their weekday lunch buffet. It has a good variety of tasty Mexican and American food at very little cost. No matter what you choose everything tastes delicious. I'll recomend this restaurant to anyone.

Mijares is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Pasadena. It has a comfortable, casual feel that puts you at ease when you walk in the door. They have a large indoor dining area where they feature an outstanding Sunday Brunch, large areas for private parties and my favorite, their outdoor patio. It’s the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon enjoying a leasurely meal with friends. I never feel rushed and quite the opposite, feel encouraged to take my time. They regularly have a really good mariachi band that performs throughout the restaurant and adds to enjoyment of this relaxed atmosphere.
The servers add to this experience with their friendly, prompt service. Their menu is reasonably priced and includes a large selection of classic Mexican dishes. My favorites are the Chili Colorado and their enchiladas. No visit to Mijares would be complete without trying their famous “George’s Special Margaritas.”
Their Sunday Brunch is outstanding. It has all of the items you would expect such as enchiladas, rice, beans, taquitos and flautas but also have terrific taco and omelet stations. This also includes all you drink champagne or orange juice. For the price of $9.99, this is definitely the best brunch in town.
The food is good and the atmosphere is exceptional. I encourage you to visit Mijares and enjoy a meal with good friends at a slower pace.

The first thing I look for in Mexican restauarants is authenticity in their cuisine. I
really can't stand Americanized Mexican food. Mijares fits the bill. The food is authentic
and the decor is definitely comfortably Mexican. In the past eight months my family and I
have celebrated my birthday party and later, my wife's birthday party. Both were held on a
Sunday so that we could offer our guests the Sunday brunch which is not only reasonable priced
but quite good. The service was not up to par in my opinion. The servers were decent but at
times my guests and I felt abandoned. Add more servers into the mix and the experience would
be much nicer. The brunch consists of several typical Mexican entrees, rice and beans,
salads, menudo, a taco bar and a desert table. Again, the brunch,
although small, is just right. They also serve champagne with the brunch.
I go there frequently for appetizers and margaritas. My favorite is the mango margarita,
thick, smooth and awesome!

I have regularly visited Mijares for about 15 years and I've always received excellent service in a relaxed atmosphere. When my fiancé told me he was planning a birthday brunch for me there, I knew it was going to be a good time. I have always enjoyed the outdoor patio and live music. I was really looking forward to it. From the time we arrived, we were hard pressed to find our server. We didn't even get the customary chips and salsa at each table until we asked for it. We had to track down our server for refills of our drinks - had to get our own extra silverware and napkins. I got the feeling that we were really imposing by asking our server for anything. He didn't smile or say anything when we would ask for something. You don't have to be nice but at least acknowledge the request in a respectful manner and throw in a smile if you want a good a tip! We even had to request someone clear our tables after finishing our meals 45 minutes earlier! To add insult to injury, they asked if we wanted the check and started clearing out our party before we were ready to leave and let us know they wanted to start seating people in our area! That was really the last straw and my future father in law made his displeasure with our service known, our service improved dramatically after that but our party was just about over at that point. Apparently there was a large private party in another dining room and all of their resources were focused on their event. I had a great birthday because of the people that were there but the dining experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I was shocked at the lack of service and do not recommend this restaurant for small events or individual dining if there is a large private party planned that day. It's obvious they are not prepared to offer their normal quality of service to the entire restaurant when they are also coordinating an event.
Just a tip for Mijares... GET MORE SERVERS WHEN YOU HAVE PRIVATE PARTIES! Your profit margin won't be as high but at least you won't be ignoring and potentially losing your regular customers over a single party. I'm sure I've spent more money there in the last 15 years than that private party spent on that single event! I won't be planning any future parties there, including my wedding reception. My confidence has been shot. I wouldn't trust any important event would go smoothly after this treatment. Bottom line... I won't be rushing back to patronize that restaurant any time soon! Mijares, was it worth it?
