Restaurant Reviews

The service is not that good, but if you like BBQ the food makes up for the service. Their sauces are excellant, their meats are fresh, well prepared and tender, their portions are large and their prices are low. My favorite there, however, is not the BBQ but the beer battered Chicken Strips, which are very tender, moist and flavorful. Just don't look in their dessert case, it's too tempting. Especially their chocolate cake which is delicious, but too rich to finish at one sitting.

I have a special place in my heart for Robin's. It was the locale of my first date with my wife. It was a Sunday morning and I waited for her in the patio reading a newspaper. After she arrived, it was such a beautiful day, that we opted to eat outside. They offer European style buffet. You choose something from the menu and the champagne flows throughout your stay. Well at least its supposed to. They ran out of champagne and orange juice. My wife had chosen to meet at Robin's because of their excellent Mimosas. Luckily for me, the servers and management there are very personable because I told my then, first date, that I was going to the men's room but actually I headed up the street to Trader Joe's and purchased to bottles of Moet and two of their freshly squeezed orange juice. She was very surprised and I'm sure that set me above any other date she had been on. Our server brought us out a bucket with ice for our champagne and even poured the contraband for us.
Robin's is known for their BBQ. Check their website menu for special nights. They have a garbage lid special that 2 can easily share. I've been there on Tuesday night for their all you can eat ribs and links, you can't beat the price. You better come with a huge appetite.

Robin’s has been one of my favorite Pasadena breakfast spots for years. The dining room is filled with antique signs and that gives it a charming roadside diner appeal. My favorite place to dine is their outdoor patio. In the evening it’s illuminated by tiny white lights and quite lovely. On a beautiful day, you may have to wait a few minutes for a seat outside, but it’s well worth the wait. There is usually music piped onto the patio and you can see the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains, if you look across the busy street and over the buildings. I guess I just prefer dining al fresco.

When you are seated, your server brings you fresh zucchini bread and their comical and fun to read menu. The items on the menu are reasonably priced, with the average entrée costing around $8.00. The fare is American cuisine and they are known for their barbeque, especially the sauce. As they say at Robin’s “The sauce is the boss”. They serve a lot of favorites like chili, hamburgers and ribs.

I go to Robin’s for their breakfast. They have a great breakfast menu and I highly recommend anything they serve with their chili or barbeque sauce. My favorite is the Hobo Banquet that comes with eggs, sausage or bacon and potatoes in a skillet with toast, muffin or zucchini bread on the side. I have never had a bad breakfast there or left without a doggie bag. I also highly recommend any of their burgers. Everything I have ordered there has been fresh, hearty and good. Speaking of fresh… their orange juice is hand squeezed and made to order. My Robin’s breakfasts wouldn’t be complete without a glass.

The service is average. I get the impression that the servers are stretched a little thin there but the food is definitely worth the wait. They are all very friendly and helpful albeit a little slow during peak hours.

One of my favorite things to do is enjoy my meal at a leisurely pace and Robin’s definitely allows me to do that. I highly recommend Robin’s if you are interested in a hearty, fresh, affordable meal.
